Air Compressor Pressure Class Explained: Suitable Working Conditions for 7bar / 8bar / 10bar / 13bar

1. Basic Pressure Concept

The pressure value we usually refer to is gauge pressure. Different pneumatic tools and process equipment have clear rated working pressure requirements. Improper pressure matching will lead to insufficient equipment power or excessive energy waste.

2. 7bar Pressure Grade

Typical applications: Ordinary pneumatic conveying, simple pneumatic clamping, low-pressure packaging machinery, some textile pneumatic components. Feature: Low energy consumption, mostly used in scenarios with low pressure requirement. Note that the pressure loss of post-treatment and pipelines needs to be controlled strictly, otherwise the terminal pressure will be insufficient.

3. 8bar Pressure Grade

This is the most widely used standard grade for general industry. Typical applications: Pneumatic screwdrivers, impact wrenches, sand blasting, injection molding, metal cutting, automatic assembly line, most standard pneumatic components. Feature: Balanced energy consumption and applicability. Most factory standard air systems adopt 8bar as the rated pressure. It is the preferred specification for most new air compressor stations.

4. 10bar Pressure Grade

Typical applications: High-pressure sandblasting, high-pressure air blowing, some PET bottle blowing equipment, heavy-duty pneumatic tools, long-distance compressed air transmission. Feature: Higher energy consumption than 8bar systems. Users shall evaluate whether all equipment needs 10bar air supply. For mixed scenarios with both high-pressure and common equipment, separate air supply loops are recommended to avoid overall high-pressure power waste.

5. 13bar Pressure Grade

Typical applications: PET high-speed bottle blowing, special pressure test, high-pressure airtight detection, some special industrial process. Feature: Belongs to medium-high pressure screw compressor range. The whole machine, air end, pipeline, valves and storage tank all need to meet higher pressure vessel standards. The purchase cost and operating cost increase obviously. It shall only be selected when the process definitely requires this pressure level.

6. Important Reminder

Do not raise the pressure blindly to "reserve margin". Pressure reduction valves can be installed for low-pressure equipment under high-pressure main pipe. Separate air supply schemes can save much more electricity than raising the whole system pressure.
